Best Retirement Towns in Lake Lanier Area
Most of the Lake Lanier area is made up of very small towns. By far the largest town in the Lanier area is Gainesville, Georgia, a great retirement town and one of Georgia’s 10 “Cities of Excellence”. Gainesville boasts a beautifully restored central downtown district and 2 colleges - Brenau University and Gainesville College. There is also an active arts scene with the Gainesville Theatre Alliance, the Brenau University Learning and Leisure Institute, and the Quinlan Art Center.
Oakwood and the residential communities of Lake Lanier are social towns. Oakwood, in addition to having shopping and good schools, offers single and multi-family housing options. Flowery Park is another nice town in the Lanier area. Other towns in the area include Murrayville, Cumming, Sugar Hill, Buford, Oscarville, and Flowery Branch.
There are many homes for sale that are on or near the lake but not exactly in any specific town. A good way to check out retirement real estate is to work with a real estate agent who is familiar with the area. There are active adult communities in the area such as the Seasons at Lake Lanier. |
